Fun?

A group of nursing students were gathered together one evening to practice/learn some skills. One of the skills that they were learning about was how to insert an NG tube. NG tubes are long tubes that reach from the nose to the stomach and are used for such things as eating (for those incapable of doing so through their mouth).

It has been said by a famous nurse, "I would let alot of my classmates give me shots that I wouldn't let put an NG tube down me!" It was recommended to practice this procedure on a manikin, but three slightly nonsensical students wanted their classmates to practice on them! The following video is one of those students enjoying the experience.

(The laughter is a result of the expressions on the faces of the classmates. The "patient" said, "if you could have seen their faces, you would have laughed, too!" The crying is simply from the lacrimal gland being stimulated.)

LOL Shama... unlike Amy, I watched the whole thing, and found it thoroughly amusing... sorry, hehe. I do wish I felt more compassion, but when you volunteer to have someone put an NG tube down your nose...what can I say? My day is probably coming.

Love you Shama! Hope the experience contributed to your development as an empathetic nurse.

This looks like a memorable skills lab moment :P
I was thinking of you yesterday while I was at work (at the hospital). Why, you ask? Because :) I got to put an NG tube down one of my patients for the very first time :D and I was remembering watching your video clip.
Thumbs up for being such a good guinea pig ;)

You were brave Shama! I never allowed that...no thanks! Having needles stuck in my arm and being prodded and poked by fellow classmates was pain enough... :-) I found your blog by reading my sister Sandra's. I think I'll add you to my list of "favorite blogs" if you don't mind! Looks like you'r having a great time at Southern! That brings back lots of memories!

That video is priceless...my thought "only Shama could bust up laughing while having an NG crammed down her nose and spit water out in the process" =) maybe I should have brought NG tubes to the sanctuary rather than IVs for practice during the summer...
